About PediaLabs

Laboratory use in pediatric healthcare is integral to patient care. This web-based project is designed to improve the learner’s understanding of the underlying concepts directing the proper use and interpretation of pediatric laboratory tests.

While students may be familiar with the concepts of sensitivity, specificity and predictive values, using these concepts in real world clinical applications may not be stressed enough in the classroom. The Overview section will review these concepts. The Complete Blood Count (CBC) module will challenge you to evaluate a variety of CBCs and provide you with more in-depth clinical information about a variety of hematological disorders.

This project is funded by the Glenda Garvey Teaching Academy and is a joint effort between faculty in the School of Nursing and the College of Physicians and Surgeons. Our partners indentified a shared pedagogical problem and chose to use an interdisciplinary approach to find a solution. Hopefully, this project will open the door to new cross-curricula collaborations at the Medical Center that will foster interdisciplinary relationships and meet the needs of teaching and learning across schools and departments.
